Creating an Event Branding for Local Festivals

For this project, I was tasked with creating an event poster for the Ottawa Asian Fest. The festival is a significant cultural event celebrating Asian traditions, food, and entertainment. The client wanted a visually engaging and culturally resonant design that would draw attention and encourage ticket sales for the event, which took place on Saturday, July 21, 2023. The goal was to capture the festive and traditional spirit while maintaining a modern and clean design aesthetic.

Creating and Designing Branding

I began by researching Asian festivals and traditional design elements, drawing inspiration from symbolic imagery, patterns, and colour palettes. The goal was to incorporate familiar cultural symbols while keeping the design accessible and appealing to a broad audience. The initial concepts revolved around integrating traditional Asian motifs, like the plum blossom and pagoda, alongside modern graphic elements. I also chose a warm, muted colour palette consisting of shades of red, gold, and beige, which are often associated with prosperity and celebration in many Asian cultures. The typography is bold, modern, and easy to read from a distance. The sharp, all-caps sans-serif font ensures the event details are immediately clear and draws attention, with emphasis on the event name and date.

Ottawa Asian Festival Event Branding Mockup

The final design achieved a balance between sophistication and simplicity. The elegant use of typography, soft colour palette, and ample spacing gave the invitation a luxurious feel that aligned with the high price point of the event. The minimal text allowed the focus to remain on the event's exclusivity while ensuring that the important information was clear and accessible.The "Save the Date" invitation successfully conveyed the significance of the event and its mission, creating anticipation among the target audience. The design’s refined aesthetic reflects the core values of the Springs Land Trust—commitment to nature, conservation, and long-term sustainability.
